Travel Gate
Travel Gate
The Travel Gates were a network of seven enormous, shining archways constructed during the Age of Wonders. Each of the seven great kingdoms possessed one Travel Gate, linking the kingdoms together through instantaneous travel.
The seven kingdoms connected by the Travel Gate network were:
The Age of Wonders
The Travel Gates were one of the great achievements of the Age of Wonders. By allowing instantaneous travel between the seven kingdoms, they made movement between distant lands remarkably easy and helped create a level of connection that extended far beyond the kingdoms' political alliance.
The Gates facilitated extensive trade and the rapid movement of people and goods between the kingdoms. The seven great kingdoms were therefore not isolated powers that merely maintained diplomatic relationships; the Travel Gate network made them part of a closely interconnected civilization.
Each kingdom maintained its own massive archway, with the Gates collectively forming a network that allowed travelers to pass instantly from one kingdom to another.
The exact nature of the magic that powered the Travel Gates is not established here.
The Fall of the Age of Wonders
The Travel Gates depended upon the pervasive magic that existed throughout the world during the Age of Wonders. When Demmazon's Realm separated from the world, that pervasive magic failed.
The Travel Gates ceased to function.
The great archways themselves remained, however. They could no longer carry travelers between kingdoms, but their continued presence served as a physical reminder of the civilization and magical wonders that had been lost.
Legacy
Long after the Age of Wonders ended, the surviving Travel Gates stood as monuments to a world in which instantaneous travel between the great kingdoms had been commonplace.
What had once been a vital part of daily travel and international commerce became instead a reminder of what the world had possessed—and lost—with the end of the Age of Wonders.
