Smah's Red Dragon Effigy
Smah's Red Dragon Effigy
Smah's Red Dragon Effigy, also recorded on her character sheet as Effigy Buddy, was a construct created by Smah Tepants. It took the form of a red dragon and served as both a companion and a useful tool during the party's adventures.
The character sheet records the Effigy Buddy as 7 HD and having a value of 16,000 gp. Its complete statistics are not preserved in the surviving records.
Portal Marker
The effigy was used to mark the location of a difficult-to-see portal leading to a floating temple. Smah had the red dragon effigy fly in circles around the portal so that the party could find the portal's location again.
Its ability to remain airborne indefinitely made it particularly useful for this purpose, since the construct did not become tired.
The effigy continued to serve as a marker for the portal after the party's return, allowing them to teleport back to its location when they needed to enter the portal again.
Carrier of the Aegisstaff
The Red Dragon Effigy later played a more important role during the conflict involving Cain and Filtiarn. Smah entrusted the effigy with carrying The Aegisstaff.
Cain and his allies pursued the effigy specifically because it was carrying the Aegisstaff. They eventually caught and destroyed the construct, taking the staff.
Cain then returned to the party and gloated about having destroyed Smah's effigy and taken the Aegisstaff. His decision to return allowed the party to attack him and ultimately recover the staff.
The destruction of the Red Dragon Effigy was therefore directly connected to the party's recovery of The Aegisstaff.
