Demmazon
Demmazon
The creator god. Revealed himself to the world during the Korvak War, gifted mortals the ability to wield magic, and later separated his own realm from the world at catastrophic cost.
Overview
Demmazon claims to be the creator of the world and of magic itself. For generations before the Korvak invasion, he deliberately concealed his own existence, instead answering scattered prayers made to whatever minor nature-gods and spirits people happened to worship at the time. (Failed Religions, 7/10/2009)
His alignment is confirmed Neutral. His All domains reflect his status as the creator god rather than a single specialized portfolio.
History
Before the Korvak War
Demmazon concealed his existence from the mortal world for generations. During this period, people worshipped various minor nature-gods and spirits. Demmazon nevertheless answered prayers made to these beings, though the reasons for this practice are not definitively established.
The Korvak War
When the Korvaks invaded and the native races faced extinction, Demmazon revealed himself as the world's one true god.
He bestowed true magical ability upon mortals, creating the first true wizards and clerics. He also forged 06 - Artifacts/The Five Gifts, five artifacts possessing god-like power, and entrusted them to five chosen mortal champions to oppose the Korvaks.
The Gifts and the Fall
Following the Korvak War, the surviving Gift-Bearers attempted to return the Five Gifts to Demmazon. Demmazon accepted only one of them. The remaining Gifts were hidden by their Bearers.
Later, the mortal ascensions of Correries, Magerris, and their allies threatened to tear the world apart. Demmazon lured the newly ascended gods into his own home realm and then separated his realm from the mortal world, sealing the conflict away from the world.
This event became the defining catastrophe of the Fall of the Age of Wonders.
The Consequences of the Separation
The separation of Demmazon's realm had lasting consequences for the mortal world.
First, the era in which all people could freely wield magic came to an end. After the Fall, only those who were sufficiently dedicated retained the ability to use magic.
Second, the separation created a spiritual barrier that trapped spiritual energy within the world. As a result, souls could no longer properly pass beyond the world, and the normal functioning of Raise Dead and Resurrection was disrupted.
This barrier remained in place until the events surrounding the ascension of Thorn Runehammer (God) and Orin-Kel at the conclusion of Under the Bus.
Imprisonment
Before Demmazon separated his realm from the mortal world, Correries, aided by the disguised Korvak Marstalbin, succeeded in imprisoning Demmazon within his own home realm.
The Heroes of Aegea ultimately freed him by sacrificing themselves to disrupt the source sustaining his imprisonment.
Theology & Worship
The Church of Demmazon
The Church of Demmazon was headquartered in Kratheos, later Toreon, and became the dominant religious and political power on the continent.
The Church teaches that Demmazon is wholly and purely benevolent. This is an established doctrine of the Church rather than an objective description of Demmazon's alignment.
Demmazon's actual alignment is Neutral, as confirmed by the campaign's canonical alignment/domain table. The Korvak Marstalbin also directly confirmed Demmazon's neutrality to the Heroes of Aegea.
The contradiction between Church doctrine and Demmazon's actual alignment is therefore an intentional in-world distinction, not an unresolved question of canon. Most worshippers are simply unaware of the discrepancy.
Knights of Demmazon
The Knights of Demmazon were the original Paladin order founded by Vestal Stone.
Following the Fall, the order fell into disorder. During the later Toreon era, it ultimately broke away from the increasingly corrupt Church of Demmazon.
