Campaign Participation

Chris was an original player in Under the Bus, but left the campaign for a period before returning for a guest stint. His later appearance as a guest player explains why Dunno Mename appears in later campaign reports despite having no recorded 12th- or 15th-level Chosen Powers.

The surviving notes therefore should not be interpreted as evidence that Dunno progressed continuously through the campaign. His exact level and Chosen progression during his guest return are unknown.

Character Concept

Dunno Mename was Chris's character in Under the Bus.

Unlike several of the other player characters, Dunno appears to have been an intermittent participant. The surviving campaign material contains a number of significant events involving him, but comparatively little information about his mechanical build or personal background.

His most clearly documented area of specialization was general education and broad knowledge. During the party's training with The Chosen, Dunno studied history under Brother Tomlin.

His surviving history is notable for an unusual period of separation from the rest of the party when he remained under the control of Samos, followed by a later return as a guest player, his death aboard the Sunchaser, and his subsequent resurrection by Orinder.

Race

Human — likely

The campaign's character-creation rules make Human the most likely race for Dunno.

No surviving character sheet or narrative source currently located explicitly identifies his race, so this should remain marked as a reconstruction rather than a directly documented fact.

Class

Unknown

No reliable surviving source currently establishes Dunno's class. Class: unknown; likely knowledge/arcane-oriented; wizard is a hypothesis, not established canon.

His Bracers of Armor +2 are not sufficient evidence to infer his class.

Alignment

Unknown

No reliable surviving source currently establishes Dunno's alignment.

Chosen

Dunno was a member of The Chosen.

During the party's training at the Tower of Plinth, each character selected an area of specialization.

Dunno chose general education and a broad accumulation of knowledge and studied under Brother Tomlin in the history division.

The training period resulted in the characters unlocking another Chosen ability, described in the campaign material as a bonus feat related to their chosen training. The specific ability Dunno received is unknown.

No surviving record has been found documenting a 12th-level or 15th-level Chosen Power for Dunno.

This may indicate that he stopped participating before the party reached those levels, but the surviving records do not establish exactly when or why his regular participation ended.

The standard Chosen progression was:

  • 12th: DM-defined Chosen Power
  • 13th: +2 to an ability score
  • 14th: Bonus feat
  • 15th: DM-defined Chosen Power
  • 16th: Choice of Fast Healing 1 or DR 1/—

Dunno's specific progression is incomplete.

Legacy Item

Dunno's legacy magic item was:

Bracers of Armor +2

The bracers had Demmazon's holy symbol engraved in them.

They also provided an additional +2 AC against ranged attacks.

The origin and significance of the Demmazon engraving are not currently documented.

Toreon

Dunno remained an active member of the party during the journey toward Toreon.

During the journey, Dunno was among the characters who developed severe fevers and suffered Wisdom damage.

The illness was eventually treated using Dew Gooder's spells and the party's prayer beads.

The Samos Incident

Dunno played an unusual role in the party's confrontation with Samos.

When the party surrendered their Chosen badges and underwent the ceremony intended to free them from their Chosen geases, Dunno was the only member of the group who failed the necessary Will save.

As a result, Samos determined that Dunno could not leave with the others. Dunno was left behind while the remainder of the party was taken away.

He initially attempted to make nervous small talk with Samos while Samos summoned guards. Dunno was eventually taken to a small, bare room, stripped of his remaining possessions, and imprisoned.

Life Under Samos

Dunno spent approximately his first week confined to his room while the Church monitored him to ensure that the Chosen were not using him as a means of magical surveillance.

He was subsequently given greater freedom to move around the Cathedral but was assigned menial chores.

Dunno asked about rejoining the party, but the Cathedral staff repeatedly told him that they would look into it without providing a meaningful answer.

When the party later communicated with Dunno, his account generally supported the circumstances they had been told by Samos.

This created a period in which Dunno experienced the events surrounding Samos and the party's imprisonment from a completely different position than the other characters.

Return as a Guest Player

Dunno later returned to the campaign as a guest player.

His return appears to have been temporary rather than a restoration of regular participation.

This is consistent with the surviving campaign notes indicating that Chris was not a regular attendee by this stage of the campaign.

Death Aboard the Sunchaser

During Dunno's return, the party was aboard the Sunchaser and fighting a Kuo-toa priest below decks.

A Flame Strike struck the tightly clustered party. Chris failed his saving throw. Dunno was killed by the spell.

This was a significant event because the character subsequently became one of the known recipients of Orinder's extraordinary resurrection ability.

Resurrection

After Dunno's death, Orinder used his Chosen Power to raise Dunno from the dead.

This establishes Dunno as one of the earliest documented examples of Orinder using his unusual resurrection ability on a party member.

The surviving material does not provide enough information to determine how long Dunno continued participating after his resurrection.

Later Participation

During preparations for the defense of the Tower of Plinth against the advancing werewolf forces, the campaign notes listed Dunno as a possible participant but added that his attendance was unlikely.

This strongly suggests that by this point Dunno was no longer a regular member of the adventuring group.

The exact date or circumstances of his departure from regular play are unknown.

Characterization

The surviving material does not provide enough information to construct a detailed personality profile.

One concrete characterization is his apparent interest in general education, history, and broad knowledge, demonstrated by his selection of general education as his Chosen training specialty and his study under Brother Tomlin.

His actions during the Samos incident also show that he was placed in a particularly vulnerable position when separated from the party, but there is insufficient evidence to determine whether this reflected his personality or simply the circumstances of the encounter.
