Jessenth (Uncle Jesse)

Overview

Jessenth, known to the party as Uncle Jesse, was one of the original nine Founders of the Chosen. He was also the man who raised the player characters in Carlson, taking them in as children from different backgrounds and treating them as his family.

Jessenth died shortly before the beginning of the Under the Bus campaign.

Role in the Party's Early History

Jessenth was a kind rancher in Carlson who took in each of the future party members. He educated them thoroughly and raised them together as a family, despite their different backgrounds.

His death was sudden and mysterious. He was apparently healthy one day, became deathly ill the next, and died the following day. The party therefore began the campaign already dealing with the loss of the person who had raised them.

The party later learned that Jessenth had secretly been one of the Founders of the Chosen. This made their connection to the Chosen considerably more personal than they initially understood. The Chosen recognized them as Jessenth's "brood," and Samos immediately recognized the name when the party identified Jessenth as their recruiter connection.

Founder of the Chosen

Jessenth was one of nine original Founders of the Chosen, alongside Angar, Stegner, Serianne, Samos, The Traveler, Effron, Eritrea, and Quentin.

By the beginning of the campaign, Jessenth, Angar, Stegner, and Serianne were recorded as deceased.

The surviving material does not establish Jessenth's specific responsibilities within the Chosen, his individual Chosen powers, or how he became involved with the organization.

Legacy

Jessenth's death continued to matter to the party after they joined the Chosen. The Traveler had known him personally and described Jessenth as a good man, possibly one of the best he had known. The Traveler was saddened when he learned of his death.

His relationship with the party also brought them into contact with several of the Chosen's surviving Founders, including Samos, who referred to them as "Jesse's brood."
