Campaign Anecdotes
Fuck Brance
Tammy developed an extraordinarily long-lived animosity toward Brance as a result of his behavior when the party was first being initiated into The Chosen.
Brance was a senior student who antagonized the newcomers and Tammy in particular. The most memorable incident came in the cafeteria, when Brance walked past Tammy, dumped a bowl of yogurt over her head, raised his fists, and declared, "Brance rules!"
The confrontation nearly became a fight before other members of the Chosen intervened and suggested that they settle their differences through Battle Chess. The party subsequently defeated Brance and won his Battle Chess board.
Tammy did not forget.
Much later, while the party was investigating a possible traitor aboard the Sunchaser, several crew members cast suspicion on Brance. Smah was inclined to believe them specifically because she was still upset with Brance over the way he had treated her when they first joined the Chosen.
By late in the campaign, Tammy's dislike of Brance had apparently become enough of a running joke that Brance himself was aware of it. After taking a significant leadership role in the alliance with the elves, Brance occasionally pointed out that not a single elf had muttered "Fuck Brance" in his hearing.
The grudge substantially outlived the campaign. More than fifteen years later, Tammy still occasionally has been known to mutter:
"Fuck Brance!"
Stewart, Not Lester
Smah possessed a Rod of the Python that could transform into a Huge constrictor snake.
During the party's underwater adventures in Aegea, Tammy brought the snake into battle against the werewolf kuo-toa. This led to a disagreement that continued for the rest of the session over what the snake was actually named.
Tammy insisted his name was Stewart.
The rest of the party called him Lester.
Cackle Fever
When the party encountered a patrol of Knights of Demmazon and realized they were in danger of being forcibly recruited, Tammy suggested convincing the Knights that the party was suffering from a contagious disease and should therefore be avoided.
After another excuse failed, the party tried Tammy's plan.
To sell the story, Tammy repeatedly giggled throughout the conversation, pretending that Smah was suffering from cackle fever.
Unfortunately, Nate began explaining that there was a plague of lycanthropy spreading through the south. Tammy interrupted him to insist that they had cackle fever, leaving the party simultaneously claiming to be suffering from two entirely different contagious conditions.
The bluff failed.
They were conscripted anyway.
Screwing Up the Ceremony of Preparation
While among the kuo-toa, the party was required to participate in a Ceremony of Preparation.
Smah refused to eat the ceremonial food. Her refusal disrupted the ritual badly enough that her assigned slave was blamed for failing to make her participate, and Smah was eventually placed in a closet under guard.
When she was finally returned to the ceremony, the rest of the party was naked and covered in ceremonial mud. Smah wanted to know why the room smelled funny and why everyone was naked.
The following day, the party passed Smah's slave hanging by his wrists after having been beaten and tortured for his failure. Smah showed little remorse and stood by her decision not to eat poisoned food.
The food had, in fact, been poisoned.
Unfortunately, eating it was also part of the ritual and granted beneficial effects.
Chieftain Ploog later gave a speech whose important takeaway was that, should the party fail in its mission, it was probably Smah's fault for screwing up the Ceremony of Preparation.
Web
Tammy made repeated and memorable use of Web to turn encounters into considerably more inconvenient experiences for the party's enemies.
At the first Temple of the Moon, Smah Webbed the entrance specifically to prevent the dire wolves from escaping into the temple and raising the alarm. A wolf promptly attempted exactly that and became stuck in the Web.
During the magical recreation of the creation of The Aegisstaff, Smah again used Web against pursuing werewolves, delaying them long enough to help cover the party's retreat before escaping with Tim and Dugan using Dimension Door.
Later, while fighting werewolf kuo-toa in Aegea, Smah Webbed the approaching group. Their cleric was forced to use Dispel Magic to free them—and in doing so also dispelled his own Bless.
The Surrendered Gladiators
During the party's imprisonment in Toreon, they were forced to participate in gladiatorial battles for the entertainment of the crowd.
In one fight, the surviving enemy slaves surrendered. The crowd demanded their deaths, and Bishop Ward gave the signal that they should be killed.
Beldin threw down his weapon rather than murder them. Tim followed his example.
Smah went further.
Rather than merely refusing to participate, Tammy immediately had Smah begin bandaging and tending the wounded enemy slaves.
Bishop Ward subsequently singled out Beldin, Tim, and Smah for their continued defiance.
