The Heretics
The Heretics
Type: Group / Gladiatorial reputation
Campaign: Under the Bus
Location: Toreon
Status: CANON — established through actual play
Overview
The Heretics is the name by which the party has become known as gladiatorial combatants in Toreon.
The name derives from their imprisonment by the Church of Demmazon on charges of heresy.
It is a public/gladiatorial designation rather than a name the party is known to have chosen for itself.
Origin
The party was arrested after Bishop Ward issued a warrant accusing them of heresy.
They were subsequently imprisoned and forced into gladiatorial combat.
Their first known fight was against a girallon, which they survived.
Their second fight involved 23 prisoners and multiple Feral Yowlers, along with dangerous fire-based hazards in the arena.
Only twelve combatants survived that second battle, including five members of the party and Beldin.
Reputation
Following their unexpectedly successful performance, the party became widely discussed among the prison population and gained recognition as gladiators.
The party's reputation may provide opportunities that were previously unavailable to them, although no concrete opportunity has yet been established.
Current Situation
The Heretics remain prisoners of the Church.
Their survival prospects remain uncertain because gladiatorial matches are becoming increasingly dangerous.
The party believes Bishop Ward has a particular interest in ensuring that their future circumstances are difficult or lethal.
This belief is currently the party's interpretation of events rather than an established fact.
